Streets Department Updates Trash and Recycling Schedule for the Week of July 27, 2020

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Streets Department provides weekly updates to residents regarding the status of trash and recycling collection delays during the COVID19 pandemic.

The Streets Department continues to make progress with reducing trash collection delays and returning to a normal collection schedule, said Streets Commissioner, Carlton Williams. Presently the Department is running a day behind in trash collection in some areas of the City while other sections are completely caught up. Crews continued to work hard throughout the weekend collecting trash to reduce delays. Recycling continues to be delayed by several days as the Department is focusing the majority of its resources on trash collection to mitigate risks to health and public safety.

Therefore, the Department is suspending recycling collections on Monday July 27th, 2020 and Tuesday July 28th, 2020 to allow Streets Department crews to prioritize trash collection and return to a normal trash collection schedule as quickly as possible. Residents can place trash out on their normal trash collection day beginning Monday July 27th. However, residents should hold recycling until the following week for Monday and Tuesday collections. The Department will return to a normal recycling schedule on Wednesday July 29th, 2020. Residents should continue to expect delays throughout the week as crews work to pick up materials.

Residents are encouraged to utilize the six Sanitation Convenience Centers located throughout the City to drop off trash and recycling at any time throughout the week to avoid collection delays.  Sanitation Convenience Center hours of operation are now open seven days a week from Monday through Sunday between the hours of 6AM to 8PM. Please remember to show proof of residency to access the Convenience Centers. Visit www.PhiladelphiaStreets.com for a list of locations.

The Streets Department understands the residents’ concerns with collection delays throughout the pandemic and thank them for their understanding, cooperation and support during this unprecedented crisis.
