Recycling Collections Suspended Wednesday, August 5th through Friday, August 7th

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Streets Department provides weekly updates to residents regarding the status of trash and recycling collection delays during the COVID19 pandemic.

The Streets Department is pleased to announce that trash collection is back on a regular collection schedule said Streets Commissioner, Carlton Williams. Beginning Monday, August 3rd residents can place trash curbside on their regular collection day but there may be delays as the Department continues to balance increased tonnage and staff shortages.

Crews continued to work hard throughout the weekend collecting trash and recycling to reduce delays. Recycling continues to be delayed by several days as the Department focused the majority of its resources to return trash to a normal collection schedule. The Department will continue to collect last week’s recycling throughout the weekend. Last week the Department suspended recycling collections for Monday July 27th and Tuesday July 28th but will resume collections this upcoming week.

This City of Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management is currently monitoring a severe weather storm forecast expected to cause high winds and heavy down pours from Hurricane Isaias. Severe weather can cause major delays with trash and recycling collections.  Therefore, the Department is suspending recycling collections from Wednesday, August 5th to Friday, August 7th. Residents can place trash out on their normal trash collection day, however, residents should hold their recycling on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday until the following week.

Sanitation Convenience Centers will remain open. Residents are encouraged to utilize the six Centers located around the City to drop off trash and recycling at any time throughout the week to avoid collection delays.  Sanitation Convenience Centers are now open seven days a week from Monday through Sunday between the hours of 6AM to 8PM. Please remember to show proof of Philadelphia residency to access the Convenience Centers.

The Streets Department also launched a new initiative entitled: "Curb Your Waste" that offers tips for residents to manage their waste that will help reduce trash and litter, decrease delays and protect sanitation workers.
