CITYWIDE RESURFACING SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED FOR MAJOR THOROUGHFARES

CITYWIDE RESURFACING SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED FOR MAJOR THOROUGHFARES
Temporary, Full Street Closures and Parking Restrictions Expected

Philadelphia, PA – Segments of six thoroughfares across the City will require temporary street closures and parking restrictions due to resurfacing beginning Monday, July 16th, announced Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams. Complete resurfacing work for the following streets is expected to be finished by the end of August:

  • South Street, from Broad Street to Front Street.  (Police District 3)
  • Leverington Avenue, from Main Street to Ridge Avenue.  (Police District 5)
  • Green Lane, from Main Street to Ridge Avenue.  (Police District 5)
  • North 5th Street, from Lehigh Avenue to Luzerne Avenue.  (Police District 25)
  • Enterprise Avenue, from Island Avenue to I-95 Off Ramp.  (Police District 12)
  • Island Avenue, from Penrose Avenue to Enterprise Avenue.  (Police District 12)

The resurfacing effort is conducted in three separate phases – street milling, the adjustment of manhole covers and resetting of utility boxes, and final paving – all of which take place in separate activities over the course of the next several weeks.

Operations for the milling work, removal of old asphalt, will be performed during the overnight hours between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Milling of each street segment is expected to last approximately one to two nights per street.

Work for adjusting manhole covers and resetting utility boxes will be scheduled during the day between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and is expected to last approximately one week per street.

Operations for the final paving will be performed during the overnight hours between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. The final paving of each street segment is expected to last approximately one to two nights per street.

To complete the work, residents should expect parking restrictions.  Temporary ‘No Parking’ signs will be posted in advance of each scheduled activity.  Residents are urged to move their cars from the work areas when temporary ‘No Parking’ signs are posted, so that vehicles are not towed.  In the event a car is towed, please contact your local Police District to determine its location.  Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling around the work areas.  While the Streets Department will make every effort to minimize disruption to traffic, citizens are urged to plan ahead and use alternate routes when traveling in these areas.

This work is being completed by James J. Anderson Construction Co, Inc., and is part of the City Wide Resurfacing CW104 project.  The project is being financed with Federal and City funding.

The Streets Department thanks the citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation during this project. For more information on resurfacing visit philadelphiastreets.com/highways/paving/
