STREETS DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES RESURFACING TO BEGIN ON SOUTH BROAD STREET PEDESTRIAN SAFETY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
Temporary Lane Closures and Parking Restrictions Expected

PHILADELPHIA – Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams announced today that the intersection resurfacing is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 16 for the South Broad Street Pedestrian Safety Improvement Project. Work will take place along two blocks of South Broad Street, from Chestnut Street to Walnut Street between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. It will include temporary, short term lane closures and parking restrictions for pavement milling, utility manhole casting adjustments, and asphalt placement.

Resurfacing is expected to be completed within one week, weather permitting. It will occur in stages with overnight milling operations occurring first, daytime utility manhole casting adjustments, and finally overnight asphalt paving operations. Lane closures and parking restrictions will be in effect for 24-hour periods on Walnut and Chestnut Streets for utility casting adjustments. There may be short term traffic disruptions throughout the week. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained through each intersection.

Work is being performed by Ramos and Associates, Inc. of Philadelphia. It is being financed with 100 percent City Automated Red-Light Enforcement (ARLE) funding.

The Streets Department thanks citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation.
