STREETS DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES CONSTRUCTION TO START ON THE NORTH AMERICAN STREET STREETSCAPE PROJECT

Construction will be occurring in different stages to maintain traffic, and to minimize impact to the adjacent properties. The first stage of construction will occur in the median area from Oxford to Susquehanna with concrete barriers delineating the work area.  During this same time frame, work is expected to occur between Girard and Master with temporary lane closures, as needed.  Traffic will be maintained through the work area, but motorists should allow for additional travel time.

The project is designed to improve the traffic configuration of the roadway through resurfacing, line striping, and installation of bike lanes. It includes the removal of existing track structure in the roadway and construction of green storm water infrastructure including bios wales and rain gardens to help control storm water runoff.  It will also include the construction of ADA ramps, intersection bump outs, and the installation of new street lighting along the corridor.

Work will be performed by Tony DePaul and Son Contractors.  The value of the construction contract is $26.4 M, and it is being funded with a Federal TIGER Grant as well as Federal Funds and Streets and Water Department funds. Overall construction of the entire project is expected to be completed by December 2020.

A project website has been created at http://www.americanstimprovementproject.com/

and citizens may direct project related questions to the following email: AmericanStStreetscape@gmail.com.

The Streets Department thanks the citizens for their efforts and involvement during the design phase of this project.  It also thanks citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation during the upcoming construction phase.
