The sanitation team, Craig and Coke, went out of their way to help her get some trash from her car because they noticed that she couldn’t do it herself. They were both courteous and professional, she couldn’t say enough about them.

After considerable time and effort, I am pleased to report that the Philadelphia Streets Department removed the valet parking stand at the corner of Richmond Street and Allegheny Avenue. Thanks to Councilman Mark Squilla, Partick O’Donnell and the Philadelphia Streets Department for working with us to remove this eyesore from our neighborhood.

MAYOR NUTTER ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF 7TH ANNUAL PHILLY SPRING CLEANUP [Press Release]
Philadelphia, April 10, 2014 – Mayor Michael A. Nutter and the Philadelphia Streets Department announced results of last Saturday’s 7th Annual Philly Spring Cleanup. A total of 14,225 volunteers participated in cleaning and greening projects across the city, which broke last year’s record of 13,198 volunteers. For this year’s cleanup efforts, volunteers removed a total of 1,122,880 pounds of materials from cleanup sites, surpassing last year’s record of 1,014,540 pounds. The 2014 Cleanup featured 569 registered projects.

Historic Streets - Plumber’s Ditch Restoration Pilot [In The News]
The Streets Department has announced a pilot for the 2014 construction season. The pilot will allow property owners who live on the City’s Historically Designated Street Network to arrange restoration of roadway excavations caused by plumbing repairs with their own contractor(s).

2014 HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION PROGRAM KICK-OFF [Press Release]
PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Streets Department will kick off the first Household Hazardous Drop-off event of the 2014 season on Saturday, April 19, announced Streets Department Commissioner David J. Perri. The event will be held at the Department’s Training Center at State Road and Ashburner Street in the Northeast section of the City. Residents may drop off materials between 9 AM and 3 PM.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa., March 15, 2014- Today, the Philadelphia Streets Department kicked off the 2014 cleaning season at the annual Block Captain Rally, a day of learning and appreciation for Philadelphia More Beautiful Committee (PMBC) Block Captains and Junior Block Captains. More than 1,200 Block Captains and residents attended the event at the Pennsylvania Convention Center and were acknowledged for their hard work in keeping their blocks and neighborhoods clean throughout the year.

MAYOR NUTTER BREAKS GROUND ON THE DELAWARE AVENUE EXTENSION PROJECT [Press Release]
Philadelphia – Mayor Michael A. Nutter broke ground today on the Delaware Avenue Extension Project. The ceremony was held at 2:00 PM to celebrate the commencement of the project. The Mayor was joined by Deputy Mayor of Transportation Rina Cutler and other City, State and Federal Officials. The project goals are to provide better access for existing businesses in the area, relieve the nearby residential streets of commercial traffic, and to extend the Delaware River trail across the Frankford Creek.

STREETS DEPARTMENT WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY [Press Release]
Philadelphia – Streets Commissioner David J. Perri announced today that the Managing Director’s Office has declared that the Snow Emergency has ended at 11:00 AM. Vehicles can now be parked on snow emergency routes. The Streets Department assembled last night at 8pm to begin plowing and salting operations. There are currently 370 pieces of equipment in operation continuing snow-fighting efforts.

Due to the pending snow storm expected to begin late Sunday, March 2, Sanitation trucks will be diverted to snow operations. Monday's trash and recycling collections will be suspended. Residents whose collection day is Monday must hold their collections until next Monday. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank citizens in advance for their patience. The forecast snow accumulations will require Sanitation trucks to fitted with plows to assist with snow operations.

SANITATION UPDATE - February 28, 2014 [Alert]
Sanitation Update: For the week of February 24 residents should set out their trash and recyclables on their regularly scheduled collection day at their normal pickup location. If collections are not picked up on the regular day they will be picked up the next morning. Due to the double volume of Tuesday collections, crews will be running a half day behind schedule for the week. Crews are attempting to get to all driveway collections this week. Any driveway collections missed because of ice will be picked up when the driveways clear. If rear driveways are still too icy for Sanitation trucks to safely travel on, materials will be collected when the driveways are passable. Crews will be working through the weekend to collect delayed collections.

PHILADELPHIA – Germantown Avenue from Bethlehem Pike and Cresheim Valley Drive will be closed temporarily for snow removal work on Wednesday, February 19, Streets Commissioner David Perri announced today. The following temporary, full closure is scheduled to be in effect from approximately 10:00 PM Wednesday evening to 6:00 AM Thursday morning.

Due to the pending snow storm expected to begin late Wednesday, February 12: Collection of trash and recycling will be suspended on Thursday, February 13 and Friday, February 14. STREETS DEPARTMENT WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY [Press Release]
Philadelphia – The Streets Department is preparing for the second winter storm event of the week expected to begin around 11:00 PM this evening, announced Streets Commissioner David J. Perri. An ice storm is predicted during the overnight hours. The forecast is for snow and sleet to change to freezing rain which is expected to continue through the morning commute. The Streets Department will deploy ­­­120 pieces of equipment overnight to treat City streets. Property owners are strongly advised to pre-treat their steps and sidewalks this evening prior to the start of the storm. Ice storms can create extremely hazardous travel conditions for drivers as well as pedestrians.

STREETS DEPARTMENT WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY [Press Release]
Philadelphia – The Streets Department is preparing for the next snow event expected to begin around 6:00 AM on Monday morning, announced Streets Commissioner David J. Perri. Rain is expected overnight tonight prior to changing to snow just in time for the morning rush hour. The Streets Department will deploy 230 pieces of equipment at the height of the storm. Crews will deploy at 3:30 AM to begin treating roads. Primary, secondary and hilly streets will be treated and plowed throughout the event. The snow is expected to fall heavily at times throughout the day and end in the afternoon. Total snow accumulation of between 4-inches to 6-inches is anticipated.

Since our trash day was missed last week due to the snow I had a ton of trash and recyclables outside for pick-up. In addition to 2 weeks of regular trash I had old bedding and several large empty boxes after a furniture delivery. Everything was taken and I want to acknowledge the recycling pick-up crew who was still working at 7PM to get things done in our area.

Citizen thanks Streets Department: "I am writing this email to express my appreciation of the fantastic job your department did during and after this 11 to 12 in snowfall. I was in Atlantic City and was watching the forecast and subsiquent snow pileing up. I was planning on returning to Pittsburgh, PA on Wed Jan.22nd. When I awoke on Wed, all TV stations were saying that the snow removal on most streets was pretty good, but go with caution. We left A/C around 11 am. The A/C expressway was in good shape, but they didn't have as much snowfall as Phila. When we reach Phila. I was completely amazed at the tremendus condition, the Schuylkill Expressway was in, that is why I am writing this email. Thanks again for the great job your people did, they are to be congratulated."

STREETS DEPARTMENT IN GEAR FOR EARLY POTHOLE SEASON [Press Release]
PHILADELPHIA –Philadelphia has experienced a harsh winter season, with the most recent storm producing nine inches of snow and temperatures near zero. The severe weather conditions have caused our roads to sustain some damage from the freezing and thawing of moisture that seeps into the roadways. While pothole season typically begins in March, Streets Department crews are actively repairing street defects citywide, Streets Commissioner David J. Perri announced today. Over 500 potholes have already been identified during the first two weeks of January alone. Crews filled approximately 11,000 potholes in 2013.
