The Philadelphia Department of Streets should be very proud of the recycling team of Anthony and Mr. Fields, assigned to Somerton. They are always pleasant to the people and dogs on their route. Anthony always asks, “How you doing, buddy?” to my dog who barks to greet him.

20,600+ Philadelphians Take Part in 10th Annual Philly Spring Cleanup [In The News]
Philadelphia’s 10th Annual Philly Spring Cleanup was a resounding success, with more than 20,600 Philadelphians completing 825 confirmed cleanups throughout the City. The volunteers collected 649,000 lbs. of trash, 2,000 lbs. of yard waste, and more than 7,300 lbs. of recyclable materials – in a single day!

Customer states his wife was stuck while in her vehicle, sanitation workers (rubbish) got out of truck and directed her how to turn the wheel and pushed her vehicle into a safe place. Incident occurred around 9am, workers were shy about giving their names and customer wants to commend them for the good job they are doing and for helping his wife get to a safe place. Incident occurred on 8900 block of Turton Street.

STREETS DEPARTMENT KICKS OFF CLEANING SEASON AT PMBC BLOCK CAPTAIN RALLY [Alert]
PHILADELPHIA, PA (March 25, 2017): The Philadelphia Streets Department will kick off the 2017 cleaning season at the Philadelphia More Beautiful Committee (PMBC) Annual Block Captain Rally as an opportunity for city officials to thank and recognize Block Captains for their hard work. The Rally also serves as a network where Block Captains can learn about resources that can benefit their blocks. The Rally will take place on Saturday, March 25 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center and more than 1,500 Block Captains and residents are expected to attend the event, at which city officials will acknowledge their hard work in keeping their blocks and neighborhoods clean throughout the year. Attendees will also participate in several resource workshops and have the opportunity to meet and talk with representatives from City departments and organizations.

PHILADELPHIA – Due to yesterday’s storm and the continuing inclement weather, including fluctuating temperatures and high winds, the Department of Licenses and Inspections and the Streets Department are advising mid-and high rise building owners and managers to monitor their building facades and ledges for ice build-up. Ice that has melted enough to break free and fall from building surfaces can pose a threat to passersby below. Building owners are advised to take precautions such as placing barricades and warning signs around potential fall zones.

Philadelphia - The City of Philadelphia has begun preparations for tomorrow night's anticipated snow event. Preparations began today with some limited brining, particularly on Roosevelt Boulevard. Crews tomorrow will convert sanitation trucks for plowing once collections are complete. Once precipitation arrives, crews will begin salting, and then switch over to plowing when accumulations are sufficient. As always, the initial focus will be on primary and secondary arteries, bridge decks and streets in higher elevations.

Mrs. Ida Massey, a senior citizen, called us to let us know that the crew that services her street are very sweet, kind and helpful. Her story is that her husband was going out of their house (1000 block of Bingham Street), tripped and fell, hurting himself enough to be taken to the hospital. The crew had just taken the trash from the next door neighbor’s house, and saw Mr. Massey fall. They helped him up and offered to call 911, but Mrs. Massey said they didn’t need to. She called her daughter to take Mr. Massey and her to Holy Redeemer Hospital. Mrs. Massey is 86 years young, and her husband is 88 years young. They wanted to thank the Streets Department for the kindness and assistance offered by the crew towards her and her husband in a moment of need.

This past Monday, the weather was miserable--wind and rain. Lots of trash had blown out of recycling bins. The recycling crew on my block--3400 Ainslie St. in East Falls--did a great job picking up just about every piece of trash on the street. Thank you

Temporary closure scheduled for Saturday, January 21 PHILADELPHIA – Krewstown Road between Algon Avenue and Bloomfield Avenue will be closed from 7:00 AM until 4:00 PM on Saturday, January 21, Acting Streets Commissioner Michael A. Carroll announced today. The following temporary full-closure is scheduled to be in effect throughout the day: If the work is completed sooner than anticipated, the road will be opened ahead of schedule. • Northbound traffic on Krewstown Road will be blocked at Algon Avenue. No detour will be posted for this short-term closure. Bustleton Avenue and Verree Road parallel Krewstown Road and can be used as detours of this closure. • Southbound traffic will be blocked at Bloomfield Avenue. No detour will be posted for this short-term closure. Bustleton Avenue and Verree Road parallel Krewstown Road and can be used as detours of this closure. • SEPTA bus traffic and emergency vehicles will be permitted through the work zone to minimize disruption to mass transit and maintain safety. I'm not sure who this gentleman is in the black hoodie, but I'd like to give him some credit. My neighbors from the 4200 block of Fairdale Road must have forgotten to put their trash down at the curb and he came up their driveway, grabbed their cans and dumped them in the truck. As cold as it is outside he still went above and beyond. You did not have to do that but you did....thank you!
