PRESS RELEASE: STREETS DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES INTERMITTENT CLOSURES ON WALNUT STREET BRIDGE OVER SCHUYLKILL RIVER

Evening Work for Friday, September 14 through Saturday, September 15

Philadelphia, PA – Streets Commissioner Clarena Tolson announced today that Walnut Street Bridge from 23rd Street to Schuylkill Avenue will be intermittently closed to traffic on Friday, September 14 from 7pm to 7am for evening work.

The work will entail the complete removal of the existing overhead sign support structure that spans atop the bridge. For safety reasons, traffic along Walnut Street west of 23rd Street will be completely closed intermittently for short durations and at multiple times throughout the evening with the assistance of the police. One travel lane will remain open to traffic for the remainder of the evening. The work is expected to last from Friday night at 7pm until Saturday morning at 7am.

This work is part of the Walnut Street Bridge Gateway project which is being funded using a TIGER grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation, along with additional federal funding from the Federal Highway Administration.

The Streets Department thanks citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation during this project.
