PRESS RELEASE: STREETS DEPARTMENT SCHEDULES MAINTENANCE WORK ON UNIVERSITY AVENUE BRIDGE
Temporary closure scheduled for Saturday, August 25, 2012
PHILADELPHIA, PA – The University Avenue Drawbridge over the Schuylkill River will have the following traffic restrictions scheduled from approximately 7:00 AM until 3:00 PM on August 25, Streets Commissioner Clarena I. W. Tolson announced today. If the work is completed sooner, the entire roadway may open earlier.
The University Avenue Drawbridge, an extension of 38th Street, will have traffic restricted to one lane in each direction throughout the day.
Lane closures will be adjusted during the day, so there may be short-term traffic stoppages to allow for the movement of the traffic control devices.
Pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be restricted to one sidewalk during the project.
This temporary closure will allow Streets Department employees to safely perform necessary maintenance to the drawbridge and its machinery. This work has been scheduled for weekend hours in order to expedite the repairs and minimize the disruption to motorists.
All work will be completed and traffic will be restored by 3:00 PM. For the duration of the work, Streets Department crews will make every effort to minimize the inconvenience to affected drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The Streets Department thanks citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation during this project.
