PRESS RELEASE: STREETS DEPARTMENT SCHEDULES MAINTENANCE WORK ON PASSYUNK AVENUE DRAWBRIDGE

Temporary closure scheduled for Wednesday, September 5 through Thursday, September 6

PHILADELPHIA, PA – There will be traffic restrictions in place on the Passyunk Avenue Drawbridge between 26th Street and 61st Street from 9:00 PM on Wednesday, September 5 until 4:00 AM Thursday, September 6, 2012, Streets Commissioner Clarena I. W. Tolson announced today.

  • Eastbound Passyunk Avenue traffic will be stopped at 61st Street. No detour will be posted for this short duration closure. The Gray’s Ferry Avenue Bridge is the nearest Schuylkill River crossing to the north.

  • Westbound Passyunk Avenue traffic should not be affected by this closure.

  • This temporary closure will allow Streets Department employees to safely make necessary repairs to the bridge. Due to the nature of the project, the work has been scheduled for evening hours in order to expedite the repairs and minimize the disruption to motorists. If the work is completed sooner, the roadway will be reopened ahead of schedule.

All work will be completed and traffic will be restored by 4:00 AM Thursday for the morning rush. For the duration of the work, Streets Department crews will make every effort to minimize the inconvenience to affected motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The Streets Department thanks citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation during this project.
