PRESS RELEASE: STREETS DEPARTMENT SCHEDULES MAINTENANCE WORK ON PASSYUNK AVENUE DRAWBRIDGE

Temporary closure scheduled for Tuesday, August 14 through Wednesday, August 15

PHILADELPHIA – The Passyunk Avenue Drawbridge between 26th Street and 61st Street will have traffic restrictions in place on Tuesday, August 14, Streets Commissioner Clarena I. W. Tolson announced today. The following temporary restrictions are scheduled to be in effect from approximately 9:00 PM until 4:00 AM on August 15, 2012:

  • Westbound Passyunk Avenue traffic will be stopped at 26th Street. No detour will be posted for this short duration closure. The Platt Bridge (PA-291) is the nearest Schuylkill River crossing to the south.

  • Eastbound Passyunk Avenue traffic will be stopped at 61st Street. No detour will be posted for this short duration closure. The Gray’s Ferry Avenue Bridge is the nearest Schuylkill River crossing to the north.

  • This temporary closure will allow Streets Department employees to safely perform maintenance work to the bridge. Due to the nature of the project, the work will be performed during the nighttime hours in order to expedite repairs and minimize the disruption to motorists. If the work is completed sooner, the roadway will reopen ahead of schedule.

All work will be completed and traffic will be restored by 4:00 AM Wednesday for the morning rush. For the duration of the work, Streets Department crews will make every effort to minimize the inconvenience to affected drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The Streets Department thanks citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation during this project.
